Angelie: Hello everyone! I am Angelie and welcome to our weekly Global Reachout programme called ‘Workplace Strategy’. We have invited our guest speaker, Dr. Michelle, to answer your questions in this section called ‘Workplace Strategy Forum’.

Michelle: Hi Angelie and everyone on air! I am very glad to have this opportunity for sharing.

Angelie: Dr. Michelle, a listener posed such a question to us. She said: When I have grievances at the workplace, I bow down and pray. I thank the Lord that He has given me such an experience so that His grace is revealed through the challenge. I know that God will not give us a yoke that we cannot bear. He will turn our experiences into wonderful blessings. I learned to entrust situations that are beyond my control to God. At the same time, I proactively adjust my mindset and play my part. However, my job situation still has not changed for the better. I cannot meet the expected deadlines, attain performance targets, and achieve other expectations. I am greatly troubled! What should I do? Dr. Michelle, this friend seems distressed! If this issue is not resolved, she will be despondent at work. Dr. Michelle, do you have any suggestions to offer?

Michelle: Well, this is a realistic question that many workplace Christians face. This issue is the ‘inability to meet work performance targets despite diligence at work and unanswered prayers’. We may need to explore it in three steps, I believe. Firstly, this friend has to ask herself if she can assume the responsibilities in this position.

Angelie: Yes, the assumption for resolving this issue is that she is qualified for this job; otherwise, it is futile to analyze the details.

Michelle: Correct. We need to be sure of this point. If we can basically handle the responsibilities except for some junctures in time or in some areas, then we have to find out the underlying reasons in step two – when and under which situations is my work performance below par? What are the causes of it? Once we have ascertained it, we arrive at step three and ask, what can I do to improve the situation?
