Hello friends! Welcome back to Part 2 on the topic of sexual harassment in the workplace. We know that preventing a problem from occurring is much better than having to fix a mess when things happen because the pain and damage caused by sexual harassment take years to heal.

So, here’re a few things that we must be aware of:

1.  our words and actions

2.  the clothes we wear

3.  occasions when indecent jokes or romantic affairs are shared

4.  making our Christian identity known.

First, we need to be careful about our words and actions. Do what we say or do make another colleague think that we may have a special interest or feeling towards him or her? It is good to be friendly, but it is best to try to treat colleagues equally. Of course, we should avoid prolonged gazing or physical contact which can easily cause misunderstandings.

Second, pay attention to your attire. When choosing our workplace clothes – for both men and women – we should avoid those that emphasize specific parts of our bodies. After all, the workplace is not where we show off our bodies. Formal office wear will convey a silent, purposeful message, “I come here for work, and do not want to attract attention by my appearance!”

Third, if you notice that some of your colleagues like to tell indecent and silly jokes, or like to brag about their romantic affairs, it is prudent to keep your distance and not participate in their conversations. If you hear that a normal conversation is gradually getting out of hand, it is best to leave immediately – you are not obliged to know the intimate details! Just simply say, "I'm going to work now!" People will understand what you mean and over time, will not engage you in long, frivolous chats.
