One of the most remarkable facts concerning the Holy Spirit's work in salvation is His indwelling presence.
1 Corinthians 3:16, Paul says - Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
1 Corinthians 6:19 - What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
2 Corinthians 6:16 - And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? For ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
My wife and I have lived in many different countries and some countries where individuals had temples that they worship. Every time as I read these verses, I am impressed by the fact that the Bible says that you are the temple of the living God. Notice that, the temple of the living God. The living God is our heavenly Father. The living God, in the Bible, is the God who lives in heaven. He is God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. You - your body - becomes the house or the temple of God. Think about that for a moment.
The Bible tells us that God is not far away. Actually, God is living in your spirit. God is on the inside of you. He will never leave you. He will never forsake you.
These three verses reveal one of the most astonishing revelations concerning the believer and the Holy Spirit. As children of God living post-death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we have an experience with the Holy Spirit that no one before Christ's sacrifice had the privilege to experience.
As believers living under this new covenant, we are called the temple of God or the house of God or the dwelling place of God. Don't misunderstand me; God, the Father, still resides in Heaven. God the Father is enthroned in Heaven, where He rules His kingdom.
However, once a person becomes a child of God, something happens. The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 6:17 – "But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.” God’s Word Bible says, “However, the person who unites himself with the Lord becomes one spirit with him.”
What does that mean? As we stated in previous lessons, when a person becomes a Christian, the Holy Spirit immediately comes into that person's Spirit and does the work of regeneration or the new birth. At that point, the Holy Spirit takes up residence or permanently lives in the Spirit of that newly born-again person.
That is why the Bible can confidently say, your body becomes the temple or the house of God. I want to talk to you about the importance of becoming God-Inside Minded. This is one of the greatest single truths that is revealed in the New Testament concerning our relationship with God once we become Christians. Unfortunately, it is one of the least understood. Because we are living in this natural world, most of us understand natural things. We are worldly-minded or naturally-minded. However, the Bible wants us to be God inside-minded. The Bible wants us to aware of the fact that God lives in us.
If you grasp this one truth with your Spirit - renew your mind to this truth - your life will become different. You will have no more sad days. You will have no more depressed days; fear will become a thing of the past; sickness and disease will no longer be an issue; every day will become a brighter day and a more glorious day.
1 Corinthians 6:19 from the Amplified version - Do you not know that your body is the temple - the very sanctuary of the Holy Spirit who lives within you. Who you have received as a Gift from God? You are not your own. You were bought for a price - purchased with a preciousness and paid for, made His own. So then, honour God and bring glory to Him in your body.
Under the Old Covenant, God's presence was confined to a location. God’s presence was confined to the Holy of Holies in the tabernacle and then later in the temple of God - if you wanted to experience the presence of God - you had to go to the tabernacle or the temple. Every male throughout Israel had to present himself at least once a year at the temple in Jerusalem.
In Matthew 27:51 - And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;
How does God live in us?
John 14:16,17 - And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
1 John 4:13 - Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.
1 John 4:4 - Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
Every believer already has the power and ability to overcome anything or accomplish anything in life, that power is on the inside of you.
The reason many Christians do not experience victory in their lives is that they don't know who lives in them, or they don't know how to put the Holy Spirit to work for them.
We need to become more God-Inside Minded.
In John 14:16 Amplified version - And I will ask the Father, and He shall give you another comforter, counsellor, Helper, intercessor, advocate, strengthener, standby that he may remain with you forever.
Do you need comfort, counsel, help, do you need someone to make intercession, advocate, strengthener, someone to stand with you?
You already have someone living on the inside of you. He is your Comforter. He is your counsellor. He is your Helper. He is your strengthener. Again, the Bible says in 1 John 4:4 – "Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world."
The Greater One lives on the inside of you. Sometimes we think God is living far away from us because we do not feel or sense Him. When we are in the middle of a problem, all we sense or feel is the problem.
But I want you to know that God is living in you. He is not just with you, He is in you whether you feel Him or not, whether you sense Him or not.
The way we activate His power in us is by what we believe and what we say. If we continually confess problems, weakness, lack of strength, lack of wisdom, then that is what we will have and experience in life.
I want to encourage you to believe God's Word. Believe what the Bible says about you. Greater is the power who is living in you than any problem or situation in life.
I want to encourage you to have a daily confession of God's Word. Instead of repeating all the negative things everyone else is saying, begin to say what God's Word says about you and your life.
