In this session, we look at another crucial spiritual work that we have been called to do – impart.
It was an important moment in history after Jesus rose from the dead, before he ascended to heaven.
The last words and commands he gave his disciples, and also to all of us who would become followers of Christ, is found in Matthew 28: 18-20.
To get the actual spirit of the message, I will read from a direct translation of the Greek version. “And having come, Jesus spoke to them, saying, 'Has been given to me, all authority in heaven and on the earth. Having gone therefore, disciple all the nations! Baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Teaching them to observe all things, whatever commanded you. And behold, I with you am, all the days until the completion of the age. Amen.”
The above command is widely known as the Great Commission. It is seen as an impartation, as after Jesus has been crucified, died and rose again, he received authority from God over all in heaven and in the earth.
Now, as he was ascending to heaven, he imparts this authority to his followers, who had given up everything to follow him. His command was:
1. Disciple the Nations, as you live.
2. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, bring them to be born again!
3. Impart, teach, explain, demonstrate in our own lives, all things commanded us in the word of God.
4. See Jesus with us, always.
A simple word for 'impart', is to give.
We give of what we have.
We have Jesus, we give Jesus.
Jesus is the way, the truth and the life.
If they have Jesus, and follow him, they have the way to God the Father, the absolute truth from God, and the everlasting born-again, abundant life in Him.
We have the Holy Spirit.
We give of the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Its gifts of knowledge, prophecy, healing, can be seen evidently.
When we declare the kingship of Jesus, evil spirits are cast out. The previously possessed person has to make a decision to be with God through Jesus, repent of all wrong, and surrender himself to the Lordship of Jesus. He has to be filled with the Holy Spirit and lead a holy life, or he will be possessed again.
As we have received truth and grace, we also impart truth and grace.
The truth of God will never change, and it is only in His grace and patience, that we can have time and empowerment, to grow in holiness.
In closing, let me share with you a testimony of a lady, who has been my mother's prayer partner for years.
This lady, was married to a family who did not know Jesus. But through the years of hard work, helping to run the family business, doing all the housework and solely caring for her parents in law, in cooking, feeding, cleaning them; they saw the amazing love and strength she had in her. It was especially tough, when her father in law was paralyzed by a stroke, requiring more help, and also more patience as he spewed vulgarities loudly all the time, in his great frustration. But every single day, she prayed for him, and for his salvation. Once, he was so ill, stopped eating for days, and was near the point of death, that she tried to get her pastor to baptize him quickly. It was a very packed week in church. And by the time the pastor came, her father in law has stopped breathing. In her simple faith, she held on stubbornly to her pastor to baptize him, although he was dead. The pastor did and then he left. That night, her father in law stirred, and called her to bring him dinner.
What she had, an active relationship with our living God, and the love and strength that she had received from Him, was given to her father in law, where she could love and serve despite the difficulties.
When her father in law rose from the dead, he gave to her in turn what he had received.
He was dead and was brought to heaven and hell, and could share all that he had seen. While his body was baptized on earth, his spirit was baptized with the fire in heaven that cleansed him.
He knew that a life of a disciple of Christ, was truly very difficult, but greatly worth all the troubles.
He was told by God that his life was extended by one and a half years, in which he was a living testimony. Half his neighbours came to Christ, as this grumpy old man they knew was totally changed for the better.
After one and half years had passed, he sat up in bed, all dressed up, and was filled with joy and excitement. He was looking forward to going home to heaven. He saw the Angels come for him, and smiled and stretched our his arms. He went home not only peacefully but joyfully.
My friends, the kingdom of God is truly wonderful. But many now view baptism as an unnecessary ritual. Many also get baptized a with no change in their lives, as they view it as getting a free ticket to heaven.
The key to an abundant and eternal life is revealed by our Lord in John 3: 3 and 5.
Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.”
Dear friends, it’s a one-time baptism. But the new life starts and continues with repentance. And in Jesus' truth and grace, we grow in holiness and do the works, a born-again follower of Christ is called to do. May you build up the body of Christ, and may you be built up as well.
Let us pray.
Dear Father God, teach me to impart the right spirit, your holy spirit. Let all the attitudes that is sensed from me, be of you. Let me impart the right mindset, that reflects the mind of Christ. Help me, Lord, to give the people that I help, the right things that they truly need. Father, I ask of these sincerely, help me, O Lord, and I pray these in the name of my Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
Dear friends, I hope you have been blessed, see you at the next session.
