Today, we are very glad to have invited Dr. Michelle, an environmental senior specialist from Singapore, to be with us in this session of the ‘Workplace Strategy Forum’. Let’s welcome Dr. Michelle.

Michelle: Thanks Angelie. It’s truly my honor to be here today!

Angelie: Dr. Michelle, today we would like you to help us answer a question posed by a Christian brother. Shall we hear his question first?

Michelle: Sure!

Angelie: So, this friend said, “I know that there are lots of hardships in establishing a career. In the initial period of entrepreneurship, many renowned entrepreneurs did the jobs of three to five people and slept only 3 hours a night while they worked. When Microsoft was just set up, its founder, Bill Gates, and his friend, Paul, spent eight days writing and debugging programmes in his room round the clock. I know all this. However, when I joined the pioneering team of an enterprise and was given a fleeting chance to work hard, I told my boss candidly: ‘I am a Christian. I need to attend church service from 9am till 11am on Sundays and participate in my small group from 7pm till 9pm on Wednesdays. I will reduce my mealtime and rest time in order to make up for the lost time…’ However, after I had said this, my boss told me disapprovingly, “You were hired to develop this enterprise together with me but now, you tell me that you need to go to church at this crucial time?’ I felt troubled by what he said. May I ask, “How can I live out my role as a ‘royal priesthood’ and be a shining light at my workplace?”
