Hello friends, welcome to Workplace Strategy again. Our topic today is ‘Be proactive and take initiative.”
I like how the Cambridge dictionary defines the words, ‘proactive’ and ‘initiative’. To be proactive is to take action, to make changes yourself rather than reacting to things that happen. Initiative is the ability to use your judgement to make decisions and do things without needing to be told what to do.
Sometimes, taking initiative and being proactive, may sound like ‘ambition’. But the world’s definition of ambition, and ours as a Christian, are vastly different. As Christians, our motives must be Christ-centred. Our words and deeds must adhere to the core values of the Bible's teachings and we must demonstrate a godly character in the workplace. So, our heart attitude must be right.
Some believe that Christians should keep a low profile and not be "too proactive” in everything. However, this is a misunderstanding of the Bible. Christians who think this way may hold a negative attitude towards work and life. However, God does not want us to be passive and live a restricted and unfulfilling life.
