Hello friends! Welcome to Workplace Strategy! Today we share about seemingly trivial matters that may have great negative impact if not handled well. But when done properly, can minimize stress and ensure a smooth work flow.
These ‘trivial’ matters are: Punctuality, Procrastination and Being Organized.
1. Punctuality
Some may say, "Hey, this is a trivial matter! Who hasn't been late?”
My friend once worked with an enthusiastic and capable young man who had strong skillsets both in the workplace and in missionary work. Unfortunately, he was late most of the time and this habit caused great distress to the other team members. It even caused work to be delayed several times. What was particularly frustrating was that each time the young man would give good, logical reasons, giving the impression that his being late was unavoidable and justifiable. Eventually, to ensure that the work could progress on time, the team had to stop working with him.
Punctuality is perhaps, the most basic code of conduct in the workplace and is an important part of time management. For young people who just started working or those who have just moved to a new company, the first several months or even the first year, depending on the industry is the period of probation. The focus of any probation is whether we can do well in the most basic of tasks. Punctuality is one of them. If one is late several times, his/her work image will be greatly affected. No matter how capable the person is, if he or she is often late, important work may eventually not be assigned to him/her.
